Online Faculty Mentors

On this page:

The Online Faculty Mentor at each college is your primary faculty contact for SDCCD Online Learning Pathways. They are a wonderful support to work one-on-one with faculty to enhance online instruction, provide online education updates, and represent faculty in various campus committees such as DDESC, SDICCA-DE, CVC/OEI, CCC DECO, and local college committees.

Aileen Gum - City College

Welcome to City College! My name is Aileen Gum (she/her/hers). I have a B.A. in English, M.A in French Linguistics, & an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I believe language should be a "bridge," not a "barrier." I know it's not easy to learn a new language or to master academic English, so I hope our classes can be safe spaces where you can take risks to learn how to communicate better in English and to connect with others. When I'm not working, I like to get out in nature... even if it's in the middle of the city! I hope you can take time to explore some of the beautiful places in San Diego such as Tuna Harbor Park, just a few minutes from City College.

Christina Crosby - Mesa College

Hi there! I’m officially housed in Mesa’s Psychology Department and teach courses that range from General Psychology to Research Methods to Statistics. Every single course is unique, whether it is in the same or different discipline; thus, each presents its own opportunities and challenges – which just means that all can amazing in their own way! Before returning to school for psychological science, I initially studied graphic design and advertising, which are skills I now like to draw upon to design approachable and accessible course materials and online course layouts. I always enjoy thinking about and trying out new ideas to make things better ...and so look forward to working with you as you seek to do the same!

Kim Latcher - Mesa College

👋 Hi! I have been teaching in the English Department here at Mesa for 11 years (online for 6).  I believe that with equitable and inclusive online instruction, we have the opportunity to give all students access to spaces where they can be engaged, challenged, and successful.  I'm passionate about humanizing my online courses and removing barriers that keep students from thriving.  I love learning from my colleagues about the best ways to do this, and I am thrilled to be a part of MOST so that I can share this knowledge with you.

Stefanie Johnson Shipman - Miramar College

Dr. Stefanie Johnson Shipman is a Professor of English and ELAC (English Language Acquisition) at San Diego Miramar College. She has been teaching online since 2016 and loves it! In particular, Stefanie appreciates the one-on-one connections she can make with online students while supporting them in their writing, reading, and research goals, including students who may not have been traditionally served in the face-to-face environment, such as working students and students who are parents. She also loves the community of the online classroom, including student-to-student connections. Stefanie currently serves as Miramar's Online Faculty Mentor and Assistant Chair of the Languages and Ethnic Studies Department. Stefanie is a proud mom of twins, and she loves spending time with her family, reading, and running.
