A promise to help you
Through San Diego Promise, you will be encouraged in your academic achievement, social integration, and personal success through financial assistance and a strong support network of peers, staff, and faculty.

- Enrolled, earned, attempted, or have ANY postsecondary experience.
- Previously earned a degree or certificate from a postsecondary educational institution.
- Previously admitted or enrolled in the San Diego Promise at the San Diego Community College District.
Exceptions
Students who earned or attempted any college credits or received any postsecondary awards before graduation from High School or high school equivalency competition would still be eligible for The San Diego Promise Program.- Enrolled, earned, attempted, or have ANY postsecondary experience during the following terms or semesters:
- Summer 2024
- Spring 2024
- Fall 2023
- Summer 2023
- Spring 2023
- Previously earned a degree or certificate from a postsecondary educational institution.
- Previously admitted or enrolled in the San Diego Promise at the San Diego Community College District.
Exceptions
Students who enrolled in courses at the San Diego College of Continuing Education will NOT be disqualified.- San Diego College of Continuing Education Alumni or recent Graduates.
- A veteran of the U.S Armed Forces:
- The term “veteran” means a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged.
- Undocumented Student:
- An undocumented student is a foreign national who:
- Entered the United States without inspection or with fraudulent documents;
- Entered legally as a nonimmigrant but then violated the terms of his or her status and remained in the United States without authorization;
- Has Deferred Action Childhood Arrival (“DACA”) status or has previously had DACA;
- Is otherwise currently in the process of legalizing.
- An undocumented student is a foreign national who:
- Justice Involved:
- Any individual who has at any time served a custody sentence in any adult or juvenile federal, state, or local detention facility; or in any alternative custody program such as home detention.
- Foster Youth:
- Be a current or former foster youth in California whose dependency was established or continued by a court of competent jurisdiction, including a tribal court.
- Previously earned a degree or certificate from a postsecondary educational institution.
- Previously admitted or enrolled in the San Diego Promise at the San Diego Community College District.
Exceptions
Students who enrolled, earned, attempted, or have ANY postsecondary experience are STILL eligible to apply to the San Diego Promise Program.
Requirements for being admitted to the San diego promise
If a student meets one of the three San Diego Promise Pathways, Eligible students must have the following:
- High school diploma or High School Equivalency with completion year and received.
- Classified as a California Resident by the San Diego Community College District.
- Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a California Dream Act application (CADA) and be received by the San Diego Community College District.
- Enrolled in 12 or more semester units for the Fall 2024 Semester at the San Diego Community College District.
Students may also also be eligible San Diego Community College District Disability Support Programs and Services Waiver of Full-Time Status Requirement for Student Success Programs to reduce the amount of units required for full-time status.: https://www.sdccd.edu/about/departments-and-offices/student-services-department/dsps/how-to-access-services.aspx
Promise requirements for current promise students
To maintain San Diego Promise eligibility, students must:
- Complete a financial aid application (Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) or CA Dream Act
- Enroll in a minimum of 12 units each semester (does not apply to students with disability DSPS* accommodation on file)

Please Note: The San Diego Community College District will use student information to determine students’ San Diego Promise Program eligibility. If any information provided at any time disqualifies students from the promise program, students will be liable for payment of all mandatory charges from which they were exempted.
How to apply to the promise
1. Apply to the San Diego Community College District:
- Have you previously applied and have a 10-digit student ID?
- Promise Application Tip: Skip this step, use your number, and apply to San Diego Promise Now!
2. Apply for Financial Aid (Free Application for Federal Student Aid – FAFSA) or (California Dream Act Application– CADAA)
- Promise Application Tip: Make sure you don’t forget to add one of our colleges to your application for 2024-2025

3. Create a Jira Account and Apply to the San Diego Promise!
- Promise Application Tip: You must have your SDCCD 10-digit student ID number.
- Before getting started, you should create a Jira Account for updates!
4. Complete online New Student Orientation at San Diego City, Mesa, Or Miramar College.
5. Create an Abbreviated Educational Planning Session with a Counselor at San Diego City, Mesa, Or Miramar College.
6. Enroll in 12 units or your full-time equivalency for the Fall 2024 semester.

- Promise Application Tip: Registration begins:
- Check your my.sdccd student portal for your registration date and time.
- Visit my.sdccd student portal if it is your first time logging in.
7. Access your student.sdccd.edu email
- Promise Application Tip: All official District and College information is emailed to your student.sdccd.edu email account.
8. Attend a San Diego Promise Campus Orientation at your campus.
- Promise Application Tip: Meeting details are emailed to fully admitted San Diego Promise Students.
