The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) in the U.S. Department of Education requires institutions to protect all students, including LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning) students under Title IX. San Diego City, Mesa and Miramar College and Continuing Education facilitate and foster an inclusive, affirming, and celebratory environment for students, faculty, and staff, of all sexual and gender orientations, identities, and expressions.

Safe Zone training is offered Districtwide to all employees and addresses appropriate terminology and vocabulary regarding the LGBTQ+ community as well as pronouns, names and scenarios that may come up in the classroom or workplace. The goal of the training is to make the District a safer and more inclusive place for LGBTQ+ students and employees.
